schlaeger

in Our Region

As a mid-sized, family-owned company, we are deeply rooted in the Bayreuth region. That’s why we see it as our responsibility to actively help shape our community.

On this page, you will find an overview of our partners and our sponsorship activities.

Sponsorship & Commitment

Through our support of the BBC Bayreuth basketball team, we are proud to be a partner of a squad competing in Germany’s 2nd Basketball Bundesliga. This is where top athletic performance meets the professionals delivering mechatronic solutions for actuators and sensors.

schlaeger is especially committed to supporting sports. Because in sports, dynamics meet team spirit – and strong performance leads to success, just like it does at schlaeger. That’s why supporting the long-established football club SpVgg Oberfranken Bayreuth – affectionately known as “Oldschdod” by locals – is a meaningful partnership for us. Since 1921, the club has been keeping football moving in the region.

Thanks to schlaeger’s financial support, the Elefant Racing Team was able to gain a foothold in the highly competitive Formula Student environment. A strong relationship quickly developed and continues to this day, shaped by regular meetings. The exchange of experience with schlaeger is a valuable benefit for us. We look forward to many more years of excellent cooperation.

In 2016, schlaeger provided strong support to the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) / Bayreuth in financing the “LEBENSRETTER-FABRIK”. The LEBENSRETTER-FABRIK is a unique, modern training center for first-aid education in Bavaria, offering ideal conditions for life-saving courses. The new conference room provides generous space for both theoretical instruction and hands-on training. Modern interactive media support the lessons. The BRK Bayreuth district association celebrated the official opening on Tuesday, 29 November 2016.

We regularly donate money and toys to kindergartens in Bayreuth and Bindlach. To support youth sports, kindergartens and football groups recommended by our employees receive footballs in schlaeger design.

With a donation, schlaeger also supported the construction of the new multi-generational playground at the “Auenzwerge” daycare center in Weidenberg.

Bayreuth City Library is the media hub for book lovers, literature enthusiasts, and fans of music and film. As an essential part of the municipal services provided by the City of Bayreuth, it plays an important role in the community – which is why schlaeger has been supporting this area since the founding of RW21. Through regular donations, we help fund the purchase of books and other media. It is particularly important to us that these are available in different languages and also as bilingual editions.

schlaeger supported the book project by HistoKids, a group of female students from Bayreuth. The result is the book “Leon and the Stone Guardian – A Magical Journey Through Richard Wagner’s World of Opera”, which introduces children aged 8 and up to the composer’s world in a playful way. It is HistoKids’ first book project.

The Deutschlandstipendium stands for top-level support with a broad approach. Its core idea is financial assistance that is independent of a student’s income. The scholarship has received strong recognition in the business community. In addition to large corporations, many small and medium-sized companies as well as private individuals support the Deutschlandstipendium. schlaeger has also been part of this initiative for the past three years and offers excursions for scholarship holders. As a sponsor, we help support the education of outstanding skilled professionals and young researchers. In doing so, we make an important contribution to strengthening Germany’s future as a knowledge-based business location.

With our support, the Eckental Children’s Aid Association was able to provide “comfort teddies” for sick children in the region. The cuddly plush bears help distract young patients during examinations and treatments – and afterwards, the children are allowed to take them home.

The “clinic clowns” supported by the children’s aid association also help make hospital stays easier. As professional, specially trained performers, they work closely with nursing staff to support the children’s recovery process. They are definitely a welcome change of pace!

Partnerships

schlaeger has been working with Fraunhofer, Europe’s largest organization for applied research, since 2008. Fraunhofer’s research fields are aligned with people’s needs: health, safety, communication, mobility, energy and the environment. Its researchers are creative – they develop technologies, design products and improve processes.

schlaeger aims to benefit from this expertise. That’s why we take part in Fraunhofer training programs and have actively contributed to the European M4E resource efficiency project. In addition, we regularly ask Fraunhofer researchers to evaluate what is already working well at schlaeger and where there is still potential for improvement. We don’t shy away from an outside perspective – because this is the only way we can continue to improve.

schlaeger supports the training initiative My Plastics, which visits schools to provide information about career paths and apprenticeship opportunities in the regional plastics industry. In addition, the project helps training companies find suitable apprentices. This creates a training network with the goal of bringing together the region’s potential and its distributed know-how.

Through partnerships and the exchange of experience, new training concepts can be developed. For schlaeger, strong public communication about careers in the world of plastics is especially important. That’s why we support My Plastics by providing facilities, sending our own employees to training sessions, and hosting an annual apprentice event together with the initiative. In addition, excursions at schlaeger take place on a regular basis.

Neue Materialien Bayreuth GmbH (NMB) is a non-university research institute that develops innovative material variants and processing technologies for lightweight design using plastics, metals and fiber-reinforced composites. In addition, NMB works on solutions to optimize existing materials and production processes for specific applications. schlaeger also benefits from the competence center’s combined expertise: for many years, we have been using its testing capabilities for validations and trials.

Network

Together with Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Mosbach, schlaeger creates the ideal link between theory and practice for future engineers. The “dual original” offers a degree program at university level. At schlaeger, students gain hands-on skills and actively contribute in various areas of the company. This allows them to be specifically prepared for future responsibilities – after all, we train talent for our own needs. After just three years, graduates earn their Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Mechanical Engineering.

schlaeger is a member of Kunststoff-Netzwerk Franken e.V. (KNF), which was founded in 2003 on the initiative of the plastics industry. Its goal is to bundle the region’s potential and distributed know-how and to strengthen innovation through cooperation and the exchange of experience. In addition, member companies have the opportunity to network professionally and jointly develop solutions to often similar challenges. schlaeger regularly participates in working groups such as the energy and occupational safety committees, as well as in the managing directors’ meetings.

The Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Upper Franconia Bayreuth (IHK) is committed to bringing local interests and perspectives into the chamber’s work and, together within its bodies, forming a strong voice for the business community. On site, the committees operate independently and represent the interests of business towards public administration, politics and social groups. Key topics may include transport issues, impulses for location marketing, or challenges in vocational training. schlaeger is actively involved in the IHK committee. We have also contributed with presentations, for example on the topic of “energy efficiency”.

Education is the most important competitive factor we have in Germany. That’s why cooperation between schools and business is essential. The SCHULEWIRTSCHAFT network is a competent partner in this field with many years of experience. Companies that are involved recognize the benefits of this collaboration. The activities are diverse – ranging from business experts in the classroom and seminar programs for teachers to company visits for students, internships and coaching for school principals. schlaeger is also part of this network and actively organizes school excursions designed to inspire students about technology.

We are a member of the University Association and organize annual excursions for the Faculty of Engineering Sciences (FAN). Both schlaeger and FAN place great value on connecting science and industry. Research does not take place effectively in isolated academic projects alone, but always – and more successfully – in collaboration with others. This ensures that know-how is not limited to expert circles, but can be quickly applied by interested users and transferred into real products.
