We know our carbon footprint
Sustainability is deeply rooted in our DNA and is a central part of the development process for every new product. Our commitment: efficiency and responsibility—for this generation and those to come.
How To:
Energy Management
In its energy management, schlaeger focuses on the efficient use of renewable energy and the continuous optimization of its production processes. The result: We have almost completely eliminated CO₂ emissions from our production—including those from our own facilities and purchased energy (Scope 1 & 2 according to the GHG Protocol).
Our 42% reduction in energy consumption since 2012 has generated significant interest in industry, academia, and politics. However, we do not view this as a one-time success: With every new project, we work to achieve these results from the ground up—as a team and as an integral part of our daily work.
Where We're At
and Where We're Headed
For over ten years, we have been working to reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions at our production facility in Bayreuth. We have modernized our equipment, utilize the waste heat from our machines, and generate a portion of our electricity ourselves using solar panels. Since 2014, we have been sourcing the remainder of our electricity as certified green power.
As a result, our plant’s CO₂ emissions today are only a small fraction of what they used to be. For the small amount that we are not yet able to avoid, we support a climate protection project.
However, a large portion of our emissions does not originate from our operations, but rather from the production of our raw materials and from transportation. We are now taking a closer look at this aspect together with our suppliers.
Energy Procurement
Certified green electricity since 2014
Green natural gas since 2018
Internal heating network with up to 500 kW of heat recovery
Energy generation
Energy generation from PV power: approx. 10%
Battery storage for load balancing
Energy consumption
Reduced by 43% per component since 2012
Compressed air efficiency improved by 22%
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle:
Material cycleResource conservation is a central component of our production strategy. Our goal is not only to minimize waste, but also to reuse components and machine parts as much as possible. In our own recycling projects, for example, sprues are ground down and specifically used in the production of durable, injection-molded auxiliary components. This creates an efficient material cycle that combines sustainability with cost-effectiveness.
Prevention
of production waste, hazardous substances, and chemicals in production
Recovery
57 tons of additional recycled materials—including sorted plastics and copper—representing a 137% increase
Reduction
a 40% reduction in non-recyclable commercial waste Only 0.54 g per delivered component
